We have put together a collection of Black Lives Matter in Philadelphia Protest Photography.

How did we get here?

The beginning of a worldwide pandemic really started to highlight the systemic racism that our country was built on and has existed for all of history. It’s no coincidence that black Americans were at the core of major impacts of COVID-19 and the statewide lock-down. Inner City Philadelphian’s were furloughed from their jobs, children were out of school, and parents needed to stay with them instead of work. Many could not (and still can not) put food on the table, feed their families or go to work. The hardest-hit population nationwide are black American’s due to many lifetimes of inequality of jobs, lack of available education, and funding in cities and black communities. (Just to name a few of the many many way.) You can see some of our documentation of the Pandemic in Philadelphia here.

Fast forward less than two months – May 25, 2020. George Floyd was murdered at the knee of a white police officer. Surrounded by his also racist colleagues that allowed this injustice. This is certainly not the first time something like this has happened. But this sparked the entire country into an uproar of protests in every major city and small town. Everyone needed to know that Black Lives Matter in Philadelphia and everywhere on this earth. Not only for George Floyd, but also Trayvon MartinTamir RiceMichael BrownEric GarnerPhilando CastileBreonna Taylor and many others. And the list has not stopped growing. Several people have also been  severely injured or killed by officers during recent protests and unrest. This. Must. Stop.

White Privilege Workshop

For those who don’t know, I have been a social justice activist for over 30 years. I have trained people in a variety of Civil Disobedience tactics as well as done Anti-Oppression workshops. I felt I needed to use my experience, talent, and voice to start working. Putting our words and feeling is what is happening right now into ACTION.

The reality that a White person’s whiteness has come—and continues to come—with an array of benefits and advantages not shared by many people of color.

This workshop discusses the role that white privilege plays in perpetuating systemic racism and daily microaggression and ways to Actively work to end it. This is NOT a feel-good workshop but meant to start your process into what will need to be a lifetime priority in your life. Please contact us if you would like to join in on this workshop and learn how you can be part of the solution.
